The registry, sponsored by SITA, requires verification of aviation-industry status using the SITA-administered aero-id system. Registration is not available to general registrants. The namespace has fewer than 20,000 active registrations. Adoption is concentrated among professional aviation organizations, regional airports, and specialized aviation services. The namespace supports DNSSEC. SEO has no special handling for .aero. Because the registrant cohort is small and verified, link-graph reputation is solid. We rarely audit .aero sites but the aviation-industry subset tends to take operational security seriously, which translates to good performance on TLS and DNS audit checks.
