.jp TLD audit hub
Japan ccTLD — administered by JPRS with strict residency verification.
The .jp TLD is run by Japan Registry Services Co. and has roughly 1.7 million active registrations. Eligibility for general .jp registration requires a Japanese postal address, which is rigorously verified — registrars often request residency or incorporation documentation directly. The registry also offers organizational-restricted second levels (co.jp, ne.jp, or.jp, ac.jp, go.jp) with even stricter eligibility tied to corporate registration or institutional status. DNSSEC is supported and well-adopted. Japan has its own privacy regime (the Act on the Protection of Personal Information) which has converged toward GDPR norms in recent years. From an SEO standpoint .jp is a strong Japan-bound geotargeting signal and Japanese-language search performance benefits from it. Email deliverability requires careful attention to Japan-specific MTA quirks: certain large Japanese ISPs (NTT Docomo, AU/KDDI mobile email gateways) have historically aggressive filtering and SPF/DKIM/DMARC alignment is mandatory in practice for any sender at scale.
