The .tr namespace was historically a third-level structure (com.tr, gov.tr, edu.tr, org.tr, biz.tr, net.tr, info.tr) with each sub-zone gated by category-specific eligibility — for example, com.tr requires a Turkish trade registry record, edu.tr is restricted to Turkish higher-education institutions. Direct second-level .tr was opened in 2022 to existing third-level holders. The registry, BTK (the Information and Communication Technologies Authority), enforces verification more strictly than most peer ccTLDs — registrar-side document review is part of the standard registration flow. SEO treats .tr and .com.tr as Turkey-bound geotargeting signals. Turkish-language search via Google.tr and Yandex.tr benefits from .tr adoption. Email deliverability has Turkey-specific quirks; major Turkish ISPs (Türk Telekom, Vodafone Turkey) have their own filtering policies and DMARC alignment is recommended.
